Gavin James: always a hit

THERE are a few tickets left for singer/songwriter Gavin James, returning for a show at King John’s Castle this Saturday July 21. The Hearts on Fire singer returns to the medieval castle, scene of his sold out show in August of last year.
Gavin’s single ‘Always’ was released in April and the plaintive earworm has been on constant radioplay rotation since and is certainly epic enough to rock the castle this Saturday.
He added a new single at the end of June: ‘The Middle’ is described by James as a “happy song but still sounds kind of sad .. so it’s a sad happy sort of song.”
‘The Middle’ is part of the ‘Always’ EP and destined to be on everyone’s playlists for the long hot summer. It should sound extra special as King John’s Castle is set to be basking in warm sunshine this weekend. Gavin’s live tour has been garnering rave reviews from his legion of fans and it is a opportunity to hear more new songs from the upcoming LP.
Gavin’s total Spotify streams are rapidly heading towards 200 million making him the 175th most streamed act in the world and rising.
His breakout hit ‘Nervous’, which has to-date achieved over 100 million streams collectively on Spotify, reached No.1 in Holland, Top 10 in Norway, France and Ireland, going multi-platinum in those and other international markets.
Gavin James grew up in a house filled with music. His parents used to play Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan records. Influences that would inform the songwriter’s music. His grandparents were opera singers and his grandfather was a comedian and whistler.
As a kid Gavin Wigglesworth (real name!) was given a tin whistle to play Irish music. He competed in Feis Ceoil contests around the country. When he mastered Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ on the tin whistle, his father suggested that it was time Gavin got a guitar. He busked on the streets of Dublin ’til eventually getting a gig in The Old Storehouse in Temple Bar. playing nightly for four years. Then in 2012 the singer/songwriter released his debut EP ‘Say Hello’.
A debut album ‘Bitter Pill’ followed in 2015 as well as supporting tours with Ed Sheeran and Niall Horan. Today Gavin’s European tours, (Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland) are headline gigs to thousands of fans featuring songs with a full band sound for festivals and stadiums. His EP ‘Hearts on Fire’ was written about being on the road and touring and still maintaining relationships with his old friends.
