Garryspillane will return to the senior ranks in 2019 and in the process ended a five year absence from the top flight of Limerick club hurling with a 2-12 to 0-12 win over Bruff in Saturdayโs LIT Limerick Premier IHC final.
Speaking to Sporting Limerick, former Limerick player and Garryspillane stalwart James Ryan says the experience of last year helped the side to their 2018 success.
โIt was a disappointing time last year and we brought a lot of that hurt into this year as you do in sport. We talked about it during he week that it was 13 years since we were in the senior final. We went down, been to a couple of semi finals and lost the final last year so itโs just a lot of relief today to be honest.โ

The bouncers started well and held a five point lead heading into the break with a 1-7 to 0-5 advantage and having played the most of the hurling in the opening half.
With the clock approaching 50 minutes, TJ Ryanโs side enjoyed a 2-11 to 0-5 lead and looked to have the game in the bag but Bruff responded with seven points on the trot to reduce the arrears.
Bruff couldnโt however get the crucial goal they needed and Garryspillane will now take on Waterfordโs Clonea in Dungarven next Sunday October 28th.
Ryan was understandably delighted at the final whistle and
โToday was a pressure day and we were trying to get over the line and we have been for the last number of years. Weโve been five years in Premier Intermediate, in the semi final five years and in the final last year and to come back today and win it, the pressure has been relieved.โ
