LIMERICK singer-songwriter, Emma Langford has been announced as ‘Best Emerging Folk Artist of the Year’ at the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards.

The inaugural awards took place in Vicar Street, Dublin, on Thursday, October 25, and was broadcast live on RTÉ Radio 1.

Receiving the award, Emma said, “I don’t think I’m allowed to swear. But I don’t know what else to do. Thank you, this is ridiculous, and I don’t really believe it, I think you pulled a ‘La La Land’ on me.

“This is actually just amazing, and I’m so grateful to my family who are here, my boyfriend who is here. And my friends, and all the musicians who supported me all along, my bandmates and producers and everyone. This is ridiculous and I can’t believe I’m saying this. Thank you. Cheers.”

Emma’s ‘Quiet Giant’ album was released just over one year ago in October 2017 and was well received, her work saw her win the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Music Award as well as receiving an Irish Post Music Award nomination. The music video for her single, ‘Closed Book’, features the faces of some of those she thanked in her acceptance speech as well as showcasing some of Limerick City.
