Munster’s Rory Scannell was among the tries in their Champions Cup win over Gloucester last week but it was the their outstanding defence that caught the eye of many observers at Kingsholm.

Scannell and his teammates have the highest percentage of tackle success (90%) in this season’s competition and the centre says that another huge effort will be needed to beat Exeter Chiefs at Thomond Park this weekend.

“It’s (defence) is going to be very important. I know we conceded a try but we held them out for 35 phases, which was probably the best defensive set we have had this year.

“As a team on the pitch we got stronger after that and we really pushed on. I thought our defence was outstanding at the weekend.

“We need more of the same against a great attacking side like Exeter this week.”
