Fine Gael adds candidates in City North

FINE Gael has added Brian O’Connor and Eleanor McSherry as candidates for Limerick City North in the upcoming local elections.

Ms McSherry and Mr O’Connor will contest the Local Elections on Friday, May 24 along with their party colleagues Denis McCarthy and Olivia O’Sullivan, who were selected at the Limerick City North convention on January 28.

Eleanor McSherry from the Ennis Road is heavily involved in cultural activity in Limerick City and co-founder of the Richard Harris Film Festival. She is also co-founder of the Special Needs Parents Association. Eleanor has lived in the area for over 40 years.

“Areas I hope to address in local government include improvement of the local transport system; higher Garda presence in the area and better supports and initiatives for carers, people with disabilities and mental health issues in the community,” she said.

Brian O’Connor from Thomondgate is a full-time carer and former member of the Defences Forces. A volunteer at St Munchin’s Community Centre, he is part of the team that delivers ‘Meals on Wheels’ to almost 200 elderly and deserving clients across Limerick City.

Mr O’Connor was also part of the team that established Limerick City Community Radio in 2013.

“I have been supporting, participating with and leading community members in taking collective action and recently mobilised the support of over 100 people to generate a solution to a local issue.

“Community enhancement and development is an activity that I take great pride and enjoyment from. As a committee member of Thomondgate Resident’s Association I have garnered vital insight and familiarity with issues affecting people in Limerick,” he said.
