Garda investigation launched into death of woman outside Limerick

THE RESULTS of a post mortem examination will determine the course of a Garda investigation into the death of a woman after her body was discovered on the outskirts of Limerick near the River Shannon on Friday.

The discovery was made on Friday afternoon after 4pm by a group of children.

When the alarm was raised, Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene near the ESB power station at Ardnacrusha.

The woman, understood to be aged in her 60’s, was found at lands near the banks of the River Shannon.

Gardai were called and emergency services also notified to recover the body.

Garda crime scene investigators cordoned off the area and an investigation was launched.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that a full examination of the area would take place and that the office of the State Pathologist had been notified. The results of a post mortem examination this Saturday would be made known to gardai to determine the course of their investigation.

Gardai in Mayorstone are investigating the death.
