EXPECTATIONS have soared soprano high for St Maryโs Cathedral mid-summer eve concert, welcoming The Choir of St Patrickโs Cathedral this Friday 21 at 7.30pm. A most beautiful programme is planned by the boysโ choir master and organist Mr Stuart Nicholson, and soloists Jeffrey Ledwidge and Eoghan Desmond are confirmed.
All the choristers are educated at the Cathedral Choir School, est. 1432. This boysโ choir, deemed by their peers to be the best in the land, tour annually and France, Denmark, Britain and Sweden have hosted them thus far.
The first half of the concert has works by William Walton, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Cรฉsar Franck and Flor Peeters. Act two will feature Benjamin Brittenโs โTe Deum in Cโ with soloist Matthew Antochi; Charles Villiers Stanfordโs โBeati quorum viaโ and again Brittenโs renowned โRejoice in the lambโ. For this joyful classic, soloists Davide Antochi, Jonathan Lycett, Ernest Dines and Jeffrey Ledwidge will each have parts.
