A culture of nurture at WP Engine central

WHEN Brian Ferguson, ย head of Talent Acquisition at WP Engine, asked his director of Engineering for a statement for the companyโ€™s โ€˜Be You Be Hereโ€™ campaign that describes who she is and what she is passionate about outside of work, Haidee McMahonโ€™s initial thoughts were โ€œCrikey, Iโ€™m not very exciting.โ€

Our CEO, Heather Brunner, is a testament to whatโ€™s possible for women in tech, she is a mum, wife and leader, too.

โ€œAs director of Engineering at WP Engine and a mother to four children, there isnโ€™t a lot of spare time for much else,โ€ Haidee felt.

โ€œThen while listening to a podcast on a flight to Austin about why there are so few women in the music industry, a turn of phrase that one of the guests mentioned resonated with me, โ€˜Women canโ€™t be what they canโ€™t see.โ€™

โ€œWhen I think of the tech industry and the public perception that engineering is more suited to men than women, the reality, similar to the music industry, is dramatically different.ย  Our CEO, Heather Brunner, is a testament to whatโ€™s possible for women in tech, she is a mum, wife and leader, too.

โ€œThe ability to advance in my career while maintaining a great family life-balance is one of the key reasons I decided to join WP Engine. I therefore say with great pleasure, โ€˜I am a mum and Iโ€™m also a director of Engineering!โ€™โ€
