FAMILIES strapped for cash in the run-up to Christmas are being warned about a scam which has surfaced in Limerick, preying on people desperate to borrow money.
Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sgt Ber Leetch said that a website advertising quick and easy Christmas loans is getting traffic from Limerick borrowers.
“Within minutes of applying for a loan, the borrower will be contacted and an advance fee is requested. They are told that this is to prove that the applicant can afford their repayments but it’s a scam. The best advice is to check out the list of authorised firms on the Central Bank website before you apply for a loan online,” she told the Limerick Post.
