Faugheen the big winner at Limerick’s St Stephen’s Day Racing

11 year old Faugheen took the plaudits today in the Limerick Racecourse as he claimed the G1 Matchbook Betting Exchange Novice Chase for Patrick and Willie Mullins.

In the headline 2.40 race, Faugheen overpowered Samcro to the delight of the large attendance.

In the opening race of the day, Limerick’s Chris Hayes got off to a flier on Bajan Excell in the 12.25.

Jack Kennedy and Gordon Elliot won the second race in the the Signplus Hurdle on 7/4 Easywork.

The Eden Capital Maiden Hurdle went to Joseph O’Brien with 13/8 favourite Assemble winning out.

In the fourth race of the day Miss Cognac was a 12/1 winner of the O’Kelly Brothers Demolition Mares Hurdle for Noel Meade.

This was followed by the main event involving Faugheen and Samcro.

In the penultimate race of the day, 11/10 favourite Young Dev took the Mr Binman Handicap Steeplechase.

Tucanae was the winner of the final race at 3.50.
