Three arrested after Gardaí recover suspected heroin, cocaine and cannabis herb in Limerick

GARDAÍ have arrested three people and recovered suspected heroin, cocaine and cannabis herb, during planned searches at two homes on the south of Limerick City on Thursday, March 12.

The raids, which occurred shortly before 8pm Thursday, were led by Gardaí from the Divisional Drugs Unit based at Henry Street Garda Station backed up by members attached to the Armed Support Unit (ASU) as well as the Southern Region Garda Dog Unit.

Gardaí executed two search warrants at the houses, located at Hyde Road, Prospect, and at Clarina Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston.

“During the search in Hyde Road, Gardaí seized €1,400 of heroin, €700 of cocaine and €550 of cannabis herb,” said a garda spokesman.

“A man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s were arrested at the scene and brought to Henry Street Garda Station.”

“At the second search in Clarina Avenue, Gardaí seized €2,850 of cocaine, mobile phones, and a weighing scales.”

“A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene and brought to Henry Street Garda Station.”

The spokesman said, “the suspected drugs will be sent for analysis”.

All three suspects were still being questioned about the seizures on Friday.

All three arrested persons are detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, and can be held by gardai for questioning for up to seven days without charge.
