Not going out: We made a Limerick playlist on Spotify

WITH all gigging fun on hold for a few weeks, your reporter had a little time to do a little house keeping, but instead, decided to make a Spotify playlist of all the fine music being produced in Limerick today.

The playlist is public and called ‘MusicLimerick – New Music Favourites’ taking tracks from artists in the Limerick area released in the last 12 months.

I hope you take a listen and follow the playlist, it highlights just how much amazing music, serious production and originality is happening right here in the area.
Hip hop is having a moment right now in the city so there is plenty to represent that scene from Hazey Haze, MuRli, Citrus Fresh and Gavin DaVinci.

There is fine indie guitar noise from Sinead O’Brien, His Father’s Voice, Cruiser, PowPig, Cassavettes and Post Punk Podge.

Established acts The Cranberries, Emma Langford, The O’Malley’s and Hermitage Green who all released material in the last year are also represented.

There are tracks from Paddy Mulcahy’s instrumental LP ‘How To Disappear’ and new productions from Kodu and Jayne.

The tracks are selected and in sequence to attempt to create a flow through the genres and moods of the music. The plan is to add to this playlist as new tracks become available.

Undoubtedly I have made some serious omissions from this list so all suggestions and harrumphing will be most welcome to eric@limerickpost.ie
or at https://twitter.com/musiclimerick

If you discover some great new music from MusicLimerick, and you will, do please consider supporting the artist through their www.bandcamp.com site.

Digital download platform Bandcamp waived its fees for 24 hours last Friday and earned some badly need funds for independent artists worldwide and many Limerick acts got in on the action.
The Californian based online music retailer waived their revenue share on all sales on downloads, usually a 15% charge.

Many independent artists in Limerick use bandcamp.com to distribute their music and merchandise online. Its artist friendly business model favours local acts as the returns on a bandcamp download exceed the payments from streaming sites.

It is downloading the music that generates revenue for your local act, listening to music on bandcamp does not generate any revenue.
