TWO people were arrested after Gardaรญ on a COVID-19 checkpoint in County Limerick stopped a car that contained a quantity of cocaine.
A man and a woman were questioned in connection with the seizure of โฌ105,000 worth of cocaine and โฌ100,000 worth of cannabis herb on Tuesday.
Gardaรญ attached to the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit, were carrying out follow-up searches of properties and lands in Knockainey on Wednesday afternoon.
A Garda spokesman said that shortly before 10pm onTuesday, Gardaรญ from the Divisional Drugs Unit in Limerick were assisting with Covid-19 patrols when they stopped a car in the Kilteely area of County Limerick.
โGardaรญ searched the car and subsequently discovered โฌ70,000 of suspected cocaine.โ
โThe driver of the car, a man in his thirties, was arrested at the scene and brought to Henry Street where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.โ
โA search warrant was later executed at a premises in Knockainey, and Gardaรญ seized a further โฌ100,000 of suspected cannabis herb and โฌ35,000 of suspected cocaine.โ
โA woman in her twenties was arrested at that location. She was taken to Henry Street Garda Station where she is also detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) Act, 1996.โ
โAll of the suspected drugs will now be sent for analysis,โ the spokesman added.
