Gavan is Limerick’s only voice in Senate

-

SINN Féin Senator Paul Gavan is now Limerick’s sole representative in the Seanad.

“As the new Government assembles, it is clear both in the Cabinet and through the Taoiseach’s Seanad selections that there is a dearth of representation not just for the Mid West but for the entire West of Ireland,” Senator Gavan said this week.

“I am determined to keep Limerick’s voice to the fore and will ensure that the needs of our city and our people do not escape the attention of this new government”.

The Castleconnell-based politician said that the degree to which the West has been roundly ignored by the new Government is shocking.

“West of the Shannon is now a ministerial-free zone and this comes as the country faces into a series of crises in the tourism and hospitality sectors that will disproportionately affect the West.

“In Limerick, we’re facing the prospect of the Shannon Group closing our main tourist attractions, including Bunratty and St John’s Castle, which will likely have a devastating knock-on effect on our local tourism and hospitality businesses.
