LIMERICK City and County Council has announced that on-street parking in the city centre will be FREE on Saturdays throughout the months of July and August.ย
Every Saturday for the summer months, there will be free parking in theย core city centre areaย to make it even more attractive for people to come into the city for shopping.
Traffic wardens willย continue toย work andย as alwaysย will beย focusedย on those who are parked illegally and helping to keep traffic flowing.
Parking will also be FREE on Saturdays inย Abbeyfealeย andย Kilmallock.ย Newcastle Westย has always had FREE parking on Saturdays.
The announcement comes asย a suite ofย initiativesย outlined in Guiding Limerickย Throughย Covid-19 toย boost visitors to the city centreย is phased in.
As part ofย plans to animate the city:
- The Panoramic Wheelย has returnedย Arthurโs Quay Parkย giving people unparalleled views of Limerick.
- Giant cutlery hangingย from the air onย Bedford Row/ย Thomas Stย welcoming people back to the restaurants and cafรฉs
- Giant Table and Chairs on theย green space at Shannon Rowing Club, signalling that Limerickย isย openย for business
- Costumed characters engaging with shoppers and diners on Saturday lunchtime and in the evening at 6pm.
- 3D game paintingย in Arthurโs Quay Park. This isย an idea thatย artist Mark Cronin came to the council withย andย he will be working on this interactive mural over a number of days.
Limerick City and County Council has also put a call out to local artists, groups and creativesย toย get on board andย propose new events toย be heldย around the city and county, which will be funded by the local authority.

As the days continue more initiativesย in Guiding Limerick through Covid-19ย will come into effect across the city, including parklets, selected road closures, and additional cycle lanes.
