To celebrate the new Limerick brand Limerick: Atlantic Edge, European Embrace unveiled earlier this year, both amateur and professional photographersย had beenย invited to capture the beautiful contradictions of Limerickโ€™s distinctive character, warm yet gritty; proud yet humble; creative, yet driven.ย ย

Professional Category โ€“ Tony Clancyย

There were 376 entries to the competition and judges narrowed the entries down to seven in the professional category and 14 in the amateur category.ย

Each of the shortlisted photographs was uploaded onto the Limerick.ie Facebook page where voting took place for five days, closing this morning [Monday 02 November 2020] at 9am.ย

More than 10,000 votesย in totalย were cast.ย

Tonyโ€™sย amazing image captured at Curraghchaseย Camping Park โ€˜Embrace the Wildernessโ€™ย was the clear winner,ย chosen by 35 per cent of votesย cast in the professional category.ย

Limerick is a vibrant city full of character butย Tonyโ€™s imageย alsoย shows that Limerick boastsย the most beautiful forest parks toย relax,ย unwind and embrace the wilderness.ย

The result in the amateur category was a lot tighter, with Nataliaโ€™s stunning photograph ofย the River Shannonย winning with 21 per cent of the votes.ย

Herย riversideย imageย cleverly capturesย theย Limerickย skyline,ย whichย isย mirroredย in the calm watersย of the River Shannonย asย itย headsย towards the wild waters of the Atlantic.ย Coincidentally the contrails of a plane and its reflection are reminiscent of theย angled lines of the โ€˜Kโ€™ from the Limerickย brand.ย

The winner of the amateur category will win a โ‚ฌ1,000 voucher forย Whelan Cameras, Limerick with a month long billboard display in Limerick city for the professional prize.ย

Head of Marketing & Communications at Limerick City and County Council Laura Ryanย said:ย โ€œHuge congratulations to the winners. Their photographs are stunning and each one in their own way captures a different slice of Limerick.โ€ย

โ€œWe were delighted with the response shown to the competition initially with so many entries and then with the reaction and contribution of the voters.โ€ย

We would ask everyone to continue to take beautiful pictures of the manyย views,ย faces and characters of Limerick and share them using #LimerickEdgeEmbrace.
