PETER O’Mahony has been recalled to the starting line-up for Ireland’s Nations Cup clash with Wales this Friday in the Aviva.

O’Mahony had to wait his opportunity from the replacements in the final two Six Nations games as young stars Caelan Doris and Will Connors got the nod from the start in the backrow.

Ahead of Friday’s game, O’Mahony spoke about the maturity levels shown by the younger players in camp as the Munster man starts alongside Doris and Josh van der Flier.

“Very impressive and hungry to learn. They are quite mature for their age. Even the younger guys are as you can see Test ready. As I said they are hungry to learn and get stuck in, get involved which is great.”

Ireland will have a new face in James Lowe making his debut on the wing with Jamison Gibson Park starting at scrum half for the first time.

Hugo Keenan gets his third successive start on the other wing and O’Mahony discussed the prospect of coming into the group and how he has tried to help other integrate.

“As I said, speaking to James (Lowe) it is daunting to come into an environment that is relatively settled. There are a lot of new guys but a lot of guys that have been here a long time. Just to get in and fit in can be daunting.

“To be fair to the lads who have been here a while, they have tried to make it as easy as they can but the buy in has to be there and they are hungry to learn and get stuck in.”
