Announcement of new Irish film Angela’s Christmas wish

Brown Bag Films is thrilled to announce the official release of Angela’s Christmas Wish, the sequel to the Emmy® nominated special Angela’s Christmas.

Angela’s Christmas Wish shares the story of Angela and her family as they set out on a new Christmas adventure in their hometown of Limerick in the early 1900s. The holiday special launches on RTÉ One on Christmas Day at 17:15.

One year after the events of Angela’s Christmas, we discover Angela and her siblings desperately missing their father before the holidays. Angela comes up with a plan – she will bring their father home from Australia for Christmas. Depicted in stunning CG animation, Angela’s Christmas Wish is a heart-warming story of a determined little girl whosets out on an adventure to reunite her family in time for Christmas.

Based on the beloved characters by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt (Angela’s Ashes) and produced by 9 Story’s Oscar® nominated animation studio Brown Bag Films, the film will reunite fans with characters from the original Angela’s Christmas while introducing a few new friends along the way.

Written and directed by Dublin’s Damien O’Connor (Doc McStuffinsButterbean’s Café) for Brown Bag Films, the sequel further develops some of the most adored characters as fans join in on their new adventure. Lucy O’Connell reprises her role as Angela and Oscar® nominated Ruth Negga returns as Angela’s strong and loving mother. Jared Harris (ChernobylMad Men and The Crown) and Caitríona Balfe (Outlander and Ford V. Ferrari) also join the cast. Other Irish actors in the cast include Moe Dunford, Pat Kinevane, Janet Moran and Don Wycherley. And Damien O’Connor’s young daughter Anya O’Connor takes on the role of young Angela in a cameo appearance.

Angela’s Christmas Wish features an original song written by Darren Hendley (OctonautsGive Up Yer Aul Sins and Angela’s Christmas) and performed by 15-year-old vocal talent Allie Sherlock. Sherlock is an Irish singer, songwriter, guitarist and busker, who became globally recognized after her 2017 performance of Ed Sheeran’s Supermarket Flowers went viral.

Angela’s Christmas debuted on RTE TV  Christmas Eve 2017, garnering 3 Emmy® nominations, a Parent’s Choice Gold Award and the Dove Seal of Approval. Angela’s Christmas became a household favourite to enjoy during the holiday season.
