A man rescued from a house fire in Limerick city is being treated in intensive care in hospital for serve breathing difficulties.
The 32 year old was rescued from the burning property at Island Road, by firefighters attached to Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue Service, on Tuesday.
The owner of the house who was not in the property at the time praised firefighters as well as neighbours and a passer-by who used hammer to break in the front door of the property to try to rescue the man inside.
Informed sources said the injured man was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at University Hospital Limerick after he suffered serious breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation from the fire.
The owner, Mathew Hickey, also aged 32, said: โIโm pretty speechless at the moment, because I donโt have much, all I have is my house, Iโm living here pretty much all my life.โ
Mr Hickey said he wanted to โthankโ all those who helped rescue his friend, and said, โif I ever get your name Iโd duly like to meet you and shake your handโ.
Gardai, who do not suspect foul play, said they โattended a house fire on Island Road at around 12 middayโ and a man was โtreated at the sceneโ for injuries.
