Limerick are the big winners at the RTE Sports Awards as they scoop three of the four honours

LIMERICK were the big winners at the 2020 RTE Sport Awards as they claimed three of the four prizes on offer.

The senior hurlers were named Team of the Year with John Kiely named as Manager of the Year. Mountain Bike champion Oisin O’Callaghan was chosen as the Young Sportsperson of the Year.

Earning the first award of the night, O’Callaghan was awarded the Young Sportsperson of the Year gong after becoming the first Irish person to win a Junior World Downhill Mountain Bike Cup in October.

He made it a second title a week later to cap off a brilliant year.

After wining the award, he spoke to Darragh Moloney of RTE with the 17-year-old expressing his desire to continue to improve in 2021.

Kiely followed suit as he was awarded the Manager of the Year in the second category of the night.

The Galbally native led Limerick to the perfect season as they won each of their 13 games in 2020 to capture Munster, League and All-Ireland honours.

Kiely’s side were then chosen as the RTE Sports Team of the Year after maintaining their 100% record.

In the nights other award, Gearoid Hegarty missed out on the Sportsperson of the Year award as he was pipped by World Champion Boxer Katie Taylor.
