On this day in 2017, the Limerick U21 Footballers picked up their first win in six years as they overcame Tipperary in the Gaelic Grounds.
In 2015, the footballers and hurlers had mixed results in a Wexford double header.
2017
Limerick stunned Tipperary to win their Munster U21 Football Quarter-Final after extra-time in the Gaelic Grounds.
Limerick came into the game searching for a first win at the grade since 2011 while their visitors reached the All-Ireland final after winning Munster just two years previously.
Nonetheless, there was nothing to separate the sides in normal time with three players sent off, Josh Ryan for Limerick and Emmett Moloney and Willie Connors for Tipp.
That left it at 0-10 apiece at the end of the 60 minutes.
Back to a full XV, Tipp started extra-time in brilliant fashion, as Ross Peter, Paudie Feehan and Jack Kennedy lofted over scores.
Limerick did manage to grab one before the turnaround as they trailed 0-13 to 0-11 at the half of extra-time.
But with Tipp losing a pair fo players to black cards, Limerick took full advantage and scores from Kieran Daly, Michael Donovan and Brian Donovan were enough to see off the Premier County and collect a first U21 win in six years.
2015
Limerick left it late to snatch a 4-16 to 3-18 win over Wexford in an absorbing clash in the third round of the National Hurling League.
Liam Og McGovern had the games first goal on 7 minutes, but John Fitzgibbon’s effort on his debut had Limerick 1-4 to 1-2 ahead midway through the first half.
A second goal from McGovern and a three pointer from Jack Guiney handed Wexford a 3-8 to 1-6 lead approaching the half.
But Shane Dowling would strike a fortuitous goal just before half time to leave it 3-9 to 2-9 in Wexford’s favour.
Guiney had the first score of the second half but Declan Hannon then rattled the net to bring Limerick to within a point.
Wexford responded with a couple to push the lead back out to three. David Breen then had Limerick’s fourth goal to level proceedings with four to play.
A Guiney free pulled the hosts ahead but Shane Dowling levelled before Seanie O’Brien captured the winner late on.
Wexford edged out Limerick 1-16 to 2-12 in the fourth round of the National Football League in Wexford Innovative Park.
Kevin O’Grady’s 12th minute goal helped Wexford into an early advantage as they led 1-4 to 0-2 after 20 minutes.
Peter Nash and Darragh Treacy would reply for the visitors as both bagged goals in a three minute spell to give Limerick the lead.
That was enough to help them into a 2-6 to 1-7 lead at the half.
Twenty minutes into the second half and Limerick still held a slender lead. But they suffered a setback when Seanie Buckley was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Wexford were reduced to 14 men with ten to play but two late frees from Ben Brosnan saw them over the line.
