
A Limerick-based Garda was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated last weekend.
The member of the force was arrested and detained for questioning, last Saturday.
Gardai would not disclose the time nor location of where the alleged offence occurred.
Gardai did not respond directly to a number of questions about the gardaโs arrest including, the gardaโs age, and if they underwent a breadth test or blood test to detect for substances in their system.
A Garda spokesman said: โAn Garda Sรญochรกna can confirm that a member of An Garda Sรญochรกna based in the Southern region was arrestedย on Saturday afternoonย 12th April, 2021 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.โ
โA file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecution.โ
Itโs understood the Garda may have been involved in a road traffic collision while allegedly driving intoxicated, however gardai declined to comment further.
โAn Gardaย Sรญochรกnaย has no further comment at this time,โ a spokesman said.
The Garda Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) was asked if it was aware of the arrest of the Garda, and if it was conducting an independent investigation.
A spokeswoman for GSOC said: โGSOC is not in a position to comment on this incidentโ.
