WATCH: “Hopefully we have that edge this year” – Limerick Ladies Footballer Roisin Ambrose looking forward to 2021

THE Limerick Ladies Football team will be looking to build on their run to the All-Ireland semi-final in 2020 as they prepare for the start of the 2021 season.

In that game against eventual champions Fermanagh, Limerick conceded four early goals that put the game beyond them.

With a huge overturn in players, star midfielder Roisin Ambrose hinted towards inexperience for the result but is confident that the side can grow from the setback as they gear up for the return of Ladies Football.

“We are within reaching distance of the All-Ireland final. It was disappointing, started off slow and it was very disappointing way to end.

“It’s building steps to get to the All-Ireland this year. It’s hard to pinpoint where it went wrong, it could be inexperience but Fermanagh were superb on the day. So hopefully we will have that edge this year.” she said.

After a lengthy lay-off and plenty of set backs in returning to the field, the Old Mill player said there is nothing quite like training in developing the squad.

“You miss the girls. We are doing loads of zooms, but you can’t really have the craic on them. So it’s in person where the fun and games start.”

Limerick kick off their Division 4 league campaign against Offaly on May 30 after receiving a bye in the opening round. The following week they take on Carlow with the top two advancing to the semi-finals of the league.

Nonetheless, Ambrose isn’t concerned about their opponents as she insists the Donal Ryan managed side are focused on themselves and performing to the best of their ability.

“I know absolutely nothing about Carlow and Offaly so definitely just focusing on ourselves. Getting our team right, getting the plan right. Definitely a year to focus on ourselves.”
