LISTEN: Peter O’Mahony looks for improvement Vs Leinster

MUNSTER captain Peter O’Mahony is determined for his team to make a better account of themselves against Leinster this time around.

Munster fell to a 16-6 defeat against their provincial rivals in last month’s PRO14 Final.

Munster struggled for possession and territory throughout that fixture at the RDS and will need a big improvement on Saturday to come away with a result.

Corkman O’Mahony was quick to highlight the importance of retaining possession better and being intelligent in their decision making.

“The biggest thing is we need more ball. When we get the ball we have to hold onto it, that’s the main thing,” said the 31 year-old.

“Our percentage of possession and territory was very low. The games that we’ve played very well in, we spent time in the opposition’s 22, giving ourselves a chance to convert pressure into points.

O’Mahony mentioned the pressure Leinster put Munster under in his PRO14 final post-match interview but hopes Munster can concentrate on their own game first and foremost on this occasion. Leinster’s quality is unquestionable but he suggested Munster can be much smarter too.

“That’s down to them and down to us probably. I think a couple of decision making errors [didn’t help].

“We didn’t spend enough time in their half with the ball so that’s certainly an area we’re going to have to try and figure out a way to improve our time with the ball.”

“We’ve worked on our skill-set. It’s something we’ve been working on all season. You have to test yourself against some of the best teams and that’s the great thing, that’s the great challenge.”
