IT was a day to remember for Moyross native Wesley Joyce as he recorded his first ever winner at Sligo on Sunday afternoon.

The 18-year-old powered to victory on Hands Down in the Glasshouse Hotel Handicap in Sligo at 5pm on Sunday.

It was a first win in six years for the Donegal based trainer Charlie Moore.

After the race, a delighted Joyce reflected on his maiden win saying,

โ€œItโ€™s a great feeling to ride your first winner. Iโ€™m 18 and based with Johnny Murtagh. Iโ€™d like to get as many winners as I can and get as many outside rides as I can this season.โ€

Joyce is a regular jockey for Kildare based trainer Johnny Murtagh.

The win came in just Joyceโ€™s sixth ever race, his best finish since he came second on Misterio in his first ever outing in February.
