ALDI Ireland today confirmed it will open a new store on Roches St Limerick City in early 2023.
The news comes as the supermarket was granted final planning permission by An Bord Pleanรกla. 100 jobs will be created during the construction phase, with 35 permanent roles being created upon opening.
The 1,250 sqm store will be powered by 100% green electricity and constructed in Aldiโs award-winning Project Fresh design.
There will be 77 parking spaces available for customers. Aldi will also be investing in the future of Limerick City through the provision of a free-to-use electric vehicle charging point on Roches St.
A study* of shoppers living or working within 2km of Aldiโs planned new store on Roches Street by leading independent market research agency Behaviour and Attitudes found overwhelming support for Aldiโs plans.
Research results
- 87% of shoppers interviewed claimed they are happy to hear Aldi is planning to open a store in the area
- 89% stated they are likely to shop there
- 91% of shoppers surveyed in Limerick agreed Aldi had chosen a central convenient site on Roches Street
- 92% stated the opening of the store would generate much needed local employment
- 90% believed the opening of Aldi will mean better value grocery shopping
Commenting, Colin Breslin, Aldi Regional Managing Director said: โThis is great news for Limerick shoppers and we are looking forward to getting on-site as soon as possible and adding value to Roches St. and the city centre.โ
โThe environmentally friendly store will involve considerable investment in Limerick, creating 35 new permanent jobs and up to 100 jobs during its construction.โ
โThe new store will also provide further opportunity for local food and drink producers to work with Aldi. We sourced โฌ9.5 million of locally produced food and drink from Co. Limerick based suppliers last year.โ
The new store will be Aldiโs fourth in County Limerick, with existing stores on Childers Road and Dublin Road in Limerick City, and a store in Newcastle West. Each store is part of Aldiโs food waste reduction programme, with Aldiโs Limerick stores having donated over 41,000 meals through FoodCloud to local charities.
Each store is also part of Aldiโs Community Grants network, with The Butterfly Club, Limerick Animal Welfare, Adapt Domestic Abuse Services and Milford Care Centre some of the many local charities that have availed of the โฌ500 bursary grant in recent years.
