Ciaran Brennan named in Jim Crawford’s Ireland U21 squad

SHEFFIELD Wednesday defender Ciaran Brennan has been named in the Ireland U21 squad for their upcoming internationals against Switzerland, Australia and Switzerland.

21 year-old Brennan was born in Sheffield but qualifies for the Boys in Green through his two Limerick grandparents.

His grandfather is from Clare Street just outside the city centre while his grandmother lived in both Patrickswell and Mungret, according to the player’s father.

Brennan appeared on Sheffield Wednesday’s bench in the EFL Championship multiple times last season without ever making an appearence. He did however start twice in the FA Cup, including in their match against Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton in January.

Sheffield Wednesday will play their football in League One next season where the youngster is expected to enjoy much more gametime. In the meantime Ciaran will be hoping to do his Limerick family proud in the green jersey when he adds to his Ireland underage caps for the under-21 team.
