Dance Limerick welcomes live audiences this June

WHAT Next dance festival returns 14-19 June 2021 to bring you a programme of fresh and captivating performances and interactions from a bold new generation of dance artists.

Dive In, Discover Dance at the What Next dance festival happening from 14 – 19 June 2021. This year’s innovative programme includes exciting Dance Performances by emerging artists from Ireland and abroad, insightful Dance Dialogues discussing pressing issues, interactive Workshops for all ages, and opportunities for audiences, guests, and artists to Connect.

What Next is elated to welcome audience members both in person and online to this year’s festival, with a choice of Watch at Dance Limerick or Watch at Home tickets. Watch at Dance Limerick tickets include a table for two people to watch the performance streams on a cinema screen in the beautiful and unique venue, St. John’s Church, John’s Square, Limerick City. Watch at Home ticket holders will receive a link via email to watch the performance streams at their leisure for up to 5 days after the performance becomes live.

‘What Next dance festival 2021 is thrilled to welcome audiences both in a virtual capacity from their homes, and in-person at Dance Limerick (limited numbers) following the recent government easing of restrictions. The festival’s programme aims to inspire discussion and reflection and encourage anticipation to come together again at live events this Autumn. We are delighted to host this year’s artists in Limerick, after a channelling year for the dance world, and indeed all other all other sectors. The What Next 2021 programme reflects the resilience, creativity and talent of dance artists in Ireland and further afield.’

What Next features: Performances by International artists Joy Alpuerto Ritter (BABAE), & Sung Im Her (NUTCRUSHER), Dance Limerick Associate Artist, Rachel Sheil (No Following), and a very special triple bill of Step Up Commissions by Aliina Lindroos (After Acceptance), Chrissie Ardill (Painting the Fruit) and Rebecca Lee (Remembering Self).

Dance Dialogues at What Next includes a panel discussion on sustainability and dance practice featuring Lisa Fingleton, Prof, Nicholas Rowe, Maria Nilsson Waller, and DL.BRIDGE curator Philippa Donnellan, a reading group looking at the topic of Hydrofeminism led by Isabella Oberländer, and a special interactive Q&A with the festival artists led by Suzy Blok, Head of Artists Space at ICK, Amsterdam.

The festival also features a host of workshops including free taster sessions for a new dance performance project for women aged 18-80yrs+ called WOMEN & WORK, THE CONTRACT, dance workshops for schools and two professional classes for dance artists.
