WATCH: “I think we have come on another level” – Donal O’Sullivan reflects on Limerick’s dominant Deise win

THE Limerick Senior footballers booked their place in the Munster semi-final on Saturday with a comprehensive 4-18 to 0-12 win over Waterford in the LIT Gaelic Grounds.

A Limerick goal from Robbie Bourke inside the opening five minutes set the tone for Billy Lee’s men who coasted into the last four of the provincial championship for the third successive year.

Reflecting on the win, joint captain Donal O’Sullivan spoke about the importance of getting another championship win and the sides overall development under Billy Lee.

“Billy said that its been nearly 30 years since we won the opening round of the championship three years in a row so that was a big target for us going out.

“Last year we played Waterford three times and there wasn’t much in it, but I think over the last year we have come on another level in our forward play and with the four goals we showed that today.”

Limerick will face last year’s finalists Cork in the semi-final, like they did in 2019 where the Rebels proved far too strong for the Shannonsiders, winning out 3-18 to 0-6 in Pairc Ui Rinn.

And for O’Sullivan and co, it will be about putting in a performance and letting the result look after itself.

“Of course. We want to do ourselves justice with a performance, that’s the main thing and we will see where that takes us.”
