John Kiely and his Olympic focused household

LIMERICK Senior Hurling Manager John Kiely discussed his family’s newfound love for the Olympic games.

Limerick manager John Kiely has a young family, and naturally everyone within the household has a tremendous capacity for sporting excellence.

However Kiely’s two daughters, Ruth and Aoife, haven’t had much regard for any sporting masterclasses that took place closer to home because the vast majority of their attention has been directed towards the Olympic games in Tokyo.

Speaking ahead of the upcoing All-Ireland final, Kiely said,

“I woke up to the Olympics every morning for the last three weeks. My two girls had the Olympics on. And we talk about it a lot, they’ve got to know the likes of Natalia Coyle and Kellie Harrington and all the athletes. And all the sports, they are fascinated by them. Every child is in the same boat and its been great.

Kiely’s daughters have become immersed in the spirit that comes with the Olympics. With the phenomenal victory of Irish boxer Kellie Harrington, both Ruth and Aoife have yet another Irish hero to marvel at.

“I didn’t get up on Sunday morning because I had a pretty hectic Saturday! But our girls went to Kellie Harrington’s house on the way to the match on Saturday and got a photo. They look up to these athletes and dream of what might be for them one day.
