THE Limerick Minor footballers have fallen short in a hard fought Munster final loss to Cork in Semple Stadium.
The Limerick minors fell short in their 1-17 to 0-13 loss to Cork yesterday in the Munster minor football final in Semple Stadium. Despite the loss, Limerick manager Kevin Denihan had nothing but good things to say about his squad’s relentless effort in what was a gruelling Munster final.
“The boys gave it everything, we could not have asked for any more”
Denihan told Sporting Limerick
Although Limerick didn’t get to bring home the silverware, their presence in this Munster minor final for the first time since 1998 is a significant milestone in the development of Limerick football as a whole.
Denihan himself touched on the “emerging talent” that is apparent within the squad. Often a disappointment on a big occasion like this very Munster final, could serve to motivate this group of players towards earning places in bigger occasions on bigger stages.
“We said it to them, this can’t be a once off, we’ve got to kick on here! Three boys who are underage here again next year, they’ve got to be leaders for next year! Kick on, get back here again. Who’s to say this can’t happen on a regular basis?
Denihan explained passionately
Despite the upset that came with the final whistle in Semple Stadium yesterday, there remains little doubt towards the bright future ahead for Limerick football.
