“A special event will be organised for the hurlers” – Mayor Daniel Butler

Limerick hurling supporters can emulate team captain Declan Hannon by lifting the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

THE Mayor of the City and County of Limerick has said that a special event will be held to celebrate and congratulate the victorious Limerick senior hurling team following their historic win in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final yesterday.

Mayor Daniel Butler said: โ€œWe are all disappointed that we cannot have scenes reminiscent of 2018 on the streets of Limerick this evening.โ€

โ€œBut that doesnโ€™t mean we wonโ€™t be able to have a celebration, once the health guidelines allow.โ€

โ€œLetโ€™s be very clear, Limerick City and County Council would love nothing more than to host a public homecoming for the hurlers, however due to the government regulations this is not possible.โ€

“The current guidelines are available on the government website here. Sporting events are different, and while a homecoming is sports-related, it is not a sporting event.โ€

โ€œWhether you agree or disagree with this, the fault is not with the Council, we have to stick with the guidelines, these are the facts.โ€

โ€œHowever, once the regulations and guidance allow for larger gatherings, a special event will be organised for the hurlers, where the maximum amount of Limerick people can, once again, show their appreciation to the team.โ€
