How It Stands | Limerick PIHC standings after Round II

THE Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship approaches the final round of group games this weekend.

Unlike the Senior and Intermediate championships, no team has a bye weekend with each team preparing for a third successive weekend.

The second round yielded the following results.

Group 1

  • Cappamore 2-13 : 1-18 Mungret St Pauls
  • Murroe Boher 3-17 : 2-20 Knockainey

Group 2

  • Dromin Athlacca 2-21 : 2 -17 Bruff
  • Glenroe 0-16 : 0-17 Newcastle West

Mungret’s second consecutive win has sealed their place in the knockout stages for the fourth successive season. They are also guaranteed to top the group. While they had 16 points to spare in round one, they earned a hard-fought win over Cappamore last weekend. Cappamore know a win over Murroe Boher will seal their place in the knockout stages. If they fail to win, favourable results for Knockainey or Murroe Boher coupled with wins for themselves could see them into the last four.

Newcastle West made it two from two with an impressive win over Glenroe, who defeated them in the 2019 Intermediate final. They join Mungret in the knockout stages as they cannot be caught. However, they aren’t guaranteed top spot. Dromin Athlacca and Glenroe meet with the winners to advance alongside Newcastle West. If Glenroe win, then NCW will top the table regardless of their result against Bruff. A win or draw will see Dromin Athlacca go through. Bruff cannot advance to the semi-finals and anything other than a win will see them contest the relegation final.

In the PIHC, the top two from each group go through to the semi-finals with 1st playing 2nd. The bottom team in each group faces off in the relegation decider.
