Limerick set to reappoint John Kiely as Senior Hurling Manager on two-year term

KIELY was initially appointed in late 2016 on a three-year term.

Limerick senior hurling manager John Kiely is set to extend his stint as Treaty Bainisteoir after a

county executive committee meeting on Wednesday evening.

In a statement by the County Board, it stated,

“Following a County Executive Committee Meeting this evening the Limerick Senior Hurling Management Team consisting of: John Kiely, Paul Kinnerk, Alan Cunningham, Aonghus O’Brien and Donal O’Grady, has been approved for a two-year term and will be brought forward to the October County Committee Meeting for ratification.”

Kiely has completed five years as manager, bringing unprecedented success to the county. In just his second year in charge he led the Shannonsiders to a first All-Ireland title in 45 years as they overcame Galway in the 2018 decider.

The following year, Limerick were crowned League and Munster champions. They repeated the trick in 2020 before adding another All-Ireland title last December.

A three in row of Munster crowns was secured earlier this year as Limerick went on to retain their All-Ireland title for the first time ever in August under the tutelage of Kiely.

Kiely is set to be joined by Paul Kinnerk and Alan Cunningham who have been members of Kiely’s management team since 2017.

Aonghus O’Brien joined the set up in 2019 while Donal O’Grady was drafted in prior to the start of the 2020 season.

John Kiely was appointed manager in 2016 after helping Limerick end a 13 year wait for All-Ireland honours, helping the U21 side to a National title in 2015.

As a player he was part of the Limerick squad that reached the 1996 All-Ireland final.
