WATCH: Kilmallock’s Oisin O’Reilly looking to take it “one step further” as they prepare for 10th successive semi-final

KILMALLOCK overcame South Liberties in the Limerick SHC quarter-final on Sunday.

In the wake of the game, Kilmallock’s Oisin O’Reilly was awarded the Man of the Match gong. O’Reilly finished with 0-7 from play over the 80 minutes.

The clash finished 1-33 to 5–17 after extra time, with the Kilmallock sealing the semi-final berth. This will be Kilmallock’s 10th consecutive Limerick SHC semi-final appearance with O’Reilly reflecting on the instant classic.

“It isn’t every day you come into a quarter final and get it handy, we definitely didn’t get it handy there… We knew coming into today it was going to be a tough day and look they showed that and showed great heart, but thank God we got over the line for a finish.”

Although it will be a 10th successive semi-final for the Balbec, their recent record has been poor, with just win in their last five semi-final enouncters for the 2014 Munster Champions.

With Doon awaiting this Sunday in a replay of last year’s game, O’Reilly says his side are determined to go one better.

“That’s one thing we’ve been trying to work towards throughout the year, getting goals and creating goal chances. The last three games we’ve played against Na Piarsaigh, Ballybrown and today against South Liberties we haven’t really created much goal opportunities. But look, if we keep tipping away and keeping the scoreboard ticking is a big factor then.

“The last couple four or five years we’ve been getting to semi-finals and getting to finals and getting knocked out, we haven’t won one now since I think 2014 so maybe this year we might take it that step further.”
