Graham Rowntree “very impressed” with new Munster forward Jason Jenkins

ROWNTREE confirmed that 6’7 forward Jenkins will be available to make his debut for the province this weekend against Scarlets after recovering from a shoulder injury.

Munster’s forwards coach Graham Rowntree has shared his thoughts surrounding the exciting talent among the Munster forwards for the upcoming season. More specifically, Rowntree outlined the impression made by new signing Jason Jenkins who is touted to make his debut for the province this weekend.

I’ve been impressed with him, He’s been unlucky with an injury pretty much since he’s been here, he’s trained well this week and certainly we’ll be considering him”

Rowntree also outlined his approach regarding the reintroduction of Springbok lock RG Snyman, who scored his first try for the club in just his second appearance in Thomond Park. Since returning from a lengthy injury hiatus, Rowntree is careful to limit Snyman’s playing time until the time is right for him to make his first post injury start.

“He’s respectful of where he is within the group at the moment, remembering he’s not played a lot of rugby in the last year so it’s right that we just keep increasing his game time”

Both Munster and Rowntree are enjoying plenty choice when it come to selecting a pack, home grown talent such as Gavin Coombes, Fineen Wycherley and Jack O’Donoghue have displayed some phenomenal form in the past season and in the opening two rounds of the URC.

Even without the talents of Jenkins and Snyman, Rowntree has a lot of players to look to, making this group of Munster forwards the most talented and dynamic group the province has had in years.

“I’m very very pleased with the resources we’ve got there in the back five of the scrum, it’s exciting for a coach, selection is hard believe me”
