Limerick Senator calls for ‘Vaccine Justice’

SINN Féin Senator Paul Gavan is calling on the Government to support Covid Vaccine Justice for the developing world.

The Castleconnell-based politician says the Government has so far failed to support the call for Intellectual Property Rights (known as TRIPS) for Covid vaccines to be waived so that poorer countries can begin to produce their own vaccines for their local populations.

“The onset of the Omicron variant across much of southern Africa is the latest evidence that nobody is safe until everybody is safe. This policy of denying vaccine production to developing countries is not only unjust and immoral, it’s also incredibly short-sighted,” Senator Gavan claimed.
