ARDSCOIL Rís will seek to continue Limerick’s representation in Munster’s premier school’s hurling tournament.
Mallow is the venue as Árdscoil Rís take on Midleton CBS in the quarter final of the 2021/22 Dr Harty Cup this Saturday afternoon.
The clash, which is a repeat of the 2018 final, throws in at 1pm.
Árdscoil Rís qualified for the quarter-finals at the first attempt as they overcame Nenagh CBS 0-18 to 0-16 in early November.
This weekend’s opponents, Midleton CBS were beaten in their first round tie, losing to CBC by 1-14 to 1-20. They made up for this with a comprehensive 2-26 to 0-3 win over Blackwater Community School a fortnight later.
As mentioned, these sides met in the 2018 final where a star studded Árdscoil Rís side came out on top with a 3-18 to 2-10 win.
Ronan Connolly captained the North Circular side on that day with fellow All-Ireland winners Jason Gillane, Josh Considine, Jerome Boylan and Cathal O’Neill also on the team.
Árdscoil Rís have a rich recent history in the competition, having won the Harty Cup five times since 2011, their breakthrough success.
However, Midleton are no strangers to success themselves, having avenged the defeat in 2018, by winning the competition the following year.
St Flannans of Ennis are the current holders of the trophy which wasn’t played for last year due to covid restrictions.
Two of the other quarter-finals will be played on Saturday with the final one next Wednesday.
