Mary I and UCD play out goal fest stalemate in Fitzgibbon Cup

MARY I concluded their Fitzgibbon Campaign today.

For both Mary I and UCD, the Fitzgibbon Cup came to an end for 2022 today after an absorbing contest in Limerick.

The sides split 12 goals in a fast paced game that saw the hosts level late on after UCD looked to have stolen the lead.

In the end, the game was called to a half at 6-15 apiece with both sides eliminated from the competition prior to throw in.

It was the visitors who got off to a flying start with a pair of goals inside the opening two minutes.

But slowly, Mary I started to find their rhythm with Jack Ryan pulling them within two with a goal after 20 minutes.

His namesake Devon, grabbed Mary I’s second before the half to give them a 3-9 to 2-9 advantage.

An Andrew Ormond major had Mary I six to the good within five minutes of the restart before the Dublin side hit back with their third.

But Devon Ryan, reestablished the gap with his second of the day with twenty minutes to play.

The sides exchanged goals with five to play as Mary I took a two point lead into injury time.

Yet, the visitors rallied with their sixth of the day with time firmly in the red.

But there was time for one more act from Jamie Wall’s side as they found the final score of the day for the draw.
