Global Round-up| Ireland start Six Nations with bonus point win with contrasting League results for Limerick

A look at the results from all the sport last weekend including the GAA, Soccer, Rugby and NBA

There was an entertaining weekend of sport with inter-county hurling and football, the Six Nations opening round, the AFCON final and more NBA action.

Check out some of the key aspects of the sporting weekend below.

Hurling

Limerick suffered at the hands of Wexford at the weekend. The Treaty side struggled to find their usual form having 12 wides in the first-half with the game finishing up 1-11 to 0-11 in Wexford’s favor.

Kilkenny and Galway both had wins against Antrim and Offaly respectively. Dublin drew with Waterford, Cork beat Clare by nine points and Tipperary defeated Laois.

Gaelic Football

In Division 3, Limerick continued their form with a win over Antrim. Billy Lee’s men were 2-9 to 0-11 victors in Corrigan Park with Peter Nash and Cian Sheehan grabbing the goals. Louth and Westmeath also took home victories over Longford and Laois. Fermanagh and Wicklow rounded off division three with a draw.

In the top Division, Kerry opened the weekend with a win over Dublin by seven points. Mayo and Donegal sealed wins over Monaghan and Kildare respectively. Armagh dominated All-Ireland champions Tyrone finishing with a six point win.

Galway beat Down convincingly whilst Clare and Cork called it even in Division 2. Derry and Roscommon both won against Offaly and Meath respectively.

Division 4, Sligo, London, Leitrim and Cavan were the four victors in this division beating Carlow, Waterford, Tipperary and Wexford.

Rugby

Ireland opened their Six Nations affairs with a convincing win over Wales. The boys in green had an excellent performance at home beating the visitors by 29-7.

Scotland had a solid win against a below par England team at Murrayfield.

And tournament favourites, France beat Italy with a sloppy performance in Stade de France. France currently sit top score difference followed by Ireland. Scotland are third on four points with the rest are on zero.

Ulster beat Connacht with ease in the URC. Stand out performances from Mike Lowry and Robert Baloucoune may warrant a feature in Irelands next Six Nations game against France.

Soccer

Senegal were crowned the African Cup of Nations championship, beating Egypt in the final on penalties. Cameroon beat Burkina Faso to finish third.

Manchester United tumbled out of the FA Cup losing to Middlesbrough on penalties at Old Trafford. Premier League sides Liverpool, West Ham, Tottenham, Chelsea and Man City all advanced to the next round beating lower league opposition.

NBA

The Phoenix Suns continued their excellent run of form beating the Washington Wizards and maintaining their podium space atop the Western Conference. The Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies also won, keeping hot on the Suns heels.

The New Orleans Pelicans were victorious against the Denver Nuggets with both teams competing to establish play-off spots. The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Portland Trail Blazers on their quest for top spot. The Miami Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs maintaining first place. Chasing are the Chicago Bulls who lost to the Toronto Raptors and the Bucks.
