“There are no Guarantees in Football” Billy Lee reacts as Limerick start two from two

LIMERICK have continued their perfect start in The National Football Leagues third division.

Following from their impressive start to the National Football League last weekend, the Limerick senior footballers made it two from two in Division 3 with a win over Antrim on Saturday afternoon.

Lee’s men bagged early goals courtesy of Cian Sheehan and Peter Nash before keeping their hosts at arms length for the remainder of the contest.

The 2-9 to 0-11 win maintains Limerick’s place atop the Division 3 table as the side earn a break next weekend.

Winning coach Billy Lee was impressed with his sides grit and when asked about his initial thoughts of the game, the Limerick man praised his side.

“We got a great start and we managed to hold that through to halftime. We were conscious the first fifteen minutes of the second-half because in the last three games Antrim really came strong at us in those fifteen minutes in Newcastle and Killmallock so that was the real focus at halftime. The lads stood strong with no flinching at any stage. We absorbed the pressure that Antrim came with”

Lee continued to laud his side who showed their development on the field to keep their opponents at bay despite the difficulties of traveling to Belfast.

“They are very much together as a group and I think we are missing seven or eight of the team that started against Cork last year. You bring young lads in and they are just so comfortable with each other and they are very much unified as a group.

“Whatever matches that come after that its great, twenty six lads as a group who enjoy each others company. We wont always get the results but knowing lads have your back and will cover you, that’s fantastic.” he said.

Lee also acknowledged his sides evolution as an attacking unit as they added to the four goals they struck against Longford with two more against Antrim, making them the top goalscorers across the divisions.

“As I said last weekend we are evolving all the time. I still think we have a bit of evolution to go through with the group. First and foremost before you can see the ability in a person you must make sure their up to the pitch and have confidence with that ability, sometimes players don’t. You have to experience things before you can become able to express yourself at that level.

Lee finished by saying ” there are no guarantees in football, we will worry about Louth next on Monday morning,” as the side refocus for the TUS Gaelic Grounds clash in a fortnight’s time.
