TUS MidWest in Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final action as they travel to Galway

THE Limerick side will be hoping to join rivals UL in the semi-finals after they booked passage last night.

TUS MidWest will be seeking to further their Fitzgibbon Cup campaign today as they travel to Galway to take on GMIT this afternoon in Carnmore at 3pm.

TUS’ season began in terrible fashion as they were put to the sword by UL in Castletroy, falling to a 5-25 to 0-14 loss, trailing by 18-points at the half.

But the Moylish side replied in fine style as they overcame TU Dublin in the second round by eight points to book their place in the last eight as runners up to UL.

Their opponents today, GMIT topped their group with successive wins over Trinity College Dublin and MTU Cork, who were beaten by UL last night.

The Limerick side will be underdogs for the clash with the winners advancing to take on either NUIG or WIT in the last four.

TUS have a high number of local representation in their panel with Ross Kenny, Tomas O’Connor (both Ballybrown), Michael Cremin, Eoin Hurley (both Newcastle West), Louis Dee (Mungret St Pauls), Cathal Downes (Kildimo-Pallaskenry), Patrick Kirby (Patrickswell) and Kevin Morrissey (Ahane).

Tipperary’s Billy Seymour has been their standout player with 0-17 so far, while Clare duo Robin Mounsey and Shane Taylor have also been impressive.

In the other semi-final, Cian Lynch will be a key figure in the NUIG set up as they seek to continue their perfect season after capturing League honours last month. They take on WIT in Dangan this evening at 7pm.

UL booked their place in the semi-finals last night with a win over MTU Cork. They will face Carlow IT in that game after they dethroned UCC.
