Catholic Institute move up the table with dominant win over Muckross

THE Limerick side kept pressure on the top with a dominant win.

Catholic Institute maintained their brilliant start to the year with a third successive win in the EY Hockey League to remain second in the top table.

Over the weekend, they beat Muckross 4-0 to move within three points of Pembroke Wanderers.

The first quarter was scoreless with Insta testing the Muckross defensive mettle before taking the lead in the second quarter through Naomi Carroll, a cracking reverse-stick shot from the Olympian.

That was how it remained through to half-time but the Limerick side cut loose in the second half with Hannah Kelly grabbing a second goal. Róisín Upton added two identical penalty corner drag-flicks in the closing period to expand the lead to 4-0.

Pegasus and Old Alex also closed the gap to Pembroke with respective victories over Railway Union and Loreto.

Belfast Harlequins moved five clear of the drop with a huge win over Cork who stay bottom of the table.
