Watch | Graham Shine “delighted with that win” over Offaly in difficult conditions

THE Limerick ladies football team took on Offaly at the weekend in an impressive win in tough conditions.

The Limerick Ladies football team hosted Offaly on Sunday in Martinstown in the second round of the League. And despite the difficult conditions, Graham Shine’s side hit the net three times to record a vital win that secures their place in the knockout stages.

The home side led by a goal at half-time when preparing to play against that stormy wind. Coming into the second waterbreak Offaly held the advantage but a quality final quarter from the Shannonsiders saw the hosts win it 3-04 to 1-06.

Reflecting on the win that secures passage to the semi-finals, Shine said he was “delighted with the win,” in the conditions.

“Delighted with that win because conditions were atrocious, hard under foot, even to handpass the ball. We had to go back to basics telling the girls to keep it low when they handpass.

“The determination of the girls today was just ferocious, we couldn’t of asked no more from them, like in conditions like that coaching goes out the window it’s just heart and determination that will get you over the line.”

Shine praised the fitness of his side that allowed them to maintain composure to the final stretch of the game where they plundered two goals that swung the contest in their favour.

“I said, focus now on carrying the ball, we’re a big strong team, strong runners just focus on carrying the ball through the lines. We were ferocious in defense aswell today.

“Down the line, in championship, that will get you over the line in a lot of games, that hunger and the want and the girls showed it in abundance the last two weeks.”
