WATCH | Limerick stars key as UL ease to Freshers Hurling title

THERE were ten locals involved for the college in last nightโ€™s final in Dangan.

The University of Limerick completed the perfect season as they added Championship honours to the League title they won in February with a 1-20 to 0-11 win over DCU in Galway last night.

Adam Englishโ€™s goal after twelve minutes put seven between the sides and UL rarely looked troubled from here on in.

English (Doon), Cathal Oโ€™Neill (Crecora Manister), Colin Coughlan and Aiden Oโ€™Connor (both Ballybrown) all started the the final with each adding to the scoresheet.

Ethan Hurley (Newcastle West) started at centre back and while he didnโ€™t trouble the scoreboard, the teenager was imperious in his role on the night.

Oโ€™Connor, who was named man of the match with 0-7(3f), had three from play inside ten minutes with Oโ€™Neill and English also on target early.

Englishโ€™s goal put daylight between the sides with UL leading by 1-12 to 0-5.

The second half was a more even contest with the star studded UL team easing to the finish line with the work already done.

Doonโ€™s Chris Thomas and Barry Duff of Mungret St Pauls were both introduced in the second half with the Limerick contingent accounting for 1-15 of ULโ€™s total score.

Monaleenโ€™s Ronan Lyons and Mungret St Pauls duo Liam Lynch and Brian Oโ€™Grady who were both injured, were also a part of the UL side.

Clare senior Patrick Crotty lifted the trophy to complete the perfect season for UL as they added the Fresher All-Ireland crown to the Fresher League, Intermediate All-Ireland and Fitzgibbon Cup titles they won last month.
