County Limerick vigil for men killed in Sligo

The late Michael Snee and Aidan Moffitt

A CANDLELIGHT vigil in memory of Michael Snee and Aidan Moffitt who were killed in Sligo over the past week will be held at the Fitzgerald Centre in Bruff tomorrow (Saturday) evening at 7pm.

According to Pat Hayes, one of the event organisers, the aim of the vigil is to remember the two men and to stand by the LGBTQ+ community.

“This crime has no support in our area and it is important that we loudly stand for equality for all in our locality,” he explained.

“Throughout the centuries society has belittled and treated with disdain those who are seen as not fitting the preordained roles we cast on others. Great heroes of the past like Roger Casement have been besmirched by those who know nothing but condemnation in their hearts. It is time that the people of Bruff show that we live in a community where everyone is respected.

“Bring a candle on Saturday and show your support for a true Republic where liberty, equality and fraternity exists for all. Let us show that the people in our area condemn violence on all sexes, creeds and orientations,” Mr Hayes added.
