DARREN Horan and the Limerick minors suffered a tough loss to Tipperary in the Munster Football Champions phase one final last night.
Tipperary defeated the Limerick minors 1-4 to 1-14 in Mallow last night in the phase one final as their season came to an end.
Limerick had previously been beaten by Tipp before responding with wins over Clare and Waterford to set up a rematch with Tipp in the final.
At the half time interval Limerick were behind 0-5 to 0-2, where a missed penalty was the story as the Shannonsiders may have gone into the second half all squared.
Tipperary will now go on to face either Cork or Kerry in the semi-finals of the Minor football championship.

Limerick were obviously disappointed with the result on the day, but coach Darren Horan praised his teams preparation and the effort they had shown all throughout the year.
Tipperary were just able to get the better of the Shannonsiders on the field as Limerick’s many wides were the story of the game according to Horan.
“Yeah look I guess we we felt that we had good preparation leading into it with a couple of good wins against Clare and Waterford, but we’ve probably felt on the day it just didn’t work for us you know.
“Obviously the effort as it has been for the whole year was fantastic to work with the lads, they worked really really hard. Unfortunately I guess just the accuracy wasn’t there today and you know quite a few wides and and that was probably the story of the game for us”
Tipperary managed the game well against Limerick and were able to keep the pressure on the Shannonsiders each time they looked to grab a foothold in the game.
Horan praised the opposition’s performance and given the quality they have the Premier county were tipped to be in with a good chance against either of their next opponents.
“Yeah Tipp are a good side, I think they’ve got a really good spine you know a good centre-back and two good midfielders that are very mobile. They are well able to catch a ball over their heads as well as good ball players and they’ve got some very very good forwards.
“I give them a fighting chance against Cork or Kerry I suppose we don’t really know what’s ahead of them, but ultimately you know we give them the utmost respect and and they were the better side in the day”
Yet Horan remained upbeat as his side were given the chance to play four games at a high intercounty level which will stand to them going forward, hopefully into U20 and Senior jerseys.
“It’s massively important overall we had 13 games. Its momentum and character building from game to game. It became a real season and bound the group together, it allowed them to express themselves.
“It’s important we keep the group together. They will go back to their clubs but certainly a few will make appearances with the 20s and seniors. The hope with the Academy is to develop players. If you win a few games that’s a bonus. But what you’re really trying to do is feed the U20 and senior teams.”
