Chamber Orchestra supports Ukraine with new music video

THE Irish Chamber Orchestra released a powerful video performance across its social media channels with music by Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk.

‘Melody in A Minor’ was released to coincide with the 100th day of the war in Ukraine.

Myroslav Skoryk is one of Ukraine’s finest composers and his ‘Melody in A Minor’ has become one of the nation’s spiritual anthems. It was performed by the ICO and Norewegian composer Henning Kraggerud in March when it was met with acclaim by audiences.

Because the ICO had recorded the performance for future broadcast on RTÉ Lyric FM, the seeds were sown to produce a film that could raise funds for Ukraine.

This resulted in a powerful music video featuring the ICO and Kraggerud with scenes from Ukriane, with footage from RTÉ News, the Ukrainian Public Service Broadcaster and the European Broadcasting Union.

“We are very grateful for the support of our colleagues at UNICEF IrelandRTÉ lyric fm, RTÉ News and Current Affairs, UA:PBC (Ukrainian Public Service Broadcaster), EBU (European Broadcasting Union) and the Arts Council’s RAISE Programme in the making of this production,” said ICO chief executive Gerard Keenan.

UNICEF Ireland Executive Director Peter Power said that the Ukraine war continues to pose a threat to the lives of millions of children in Ukraine and that UNICEF is trying its best to reach all those in need.

”The wonderful collaboration with ICO and the release of Anthem for Ukraine is a timely reminder that children in Ukraine continue to need our urgent support at this critical time,” he added.

The ICO is based at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick.
