#WATCH – Dan Morrissey taking nothing for granted

Dan Morrissey and Declan Hannon celebrate after last year's All-Ireland final victory over Cork.

Dan Morrissey laid claim to his fourth provincial medal at the weekend as Limerick became the first winners of the Mick Mackey Cup.

For the fourth year running, Limerick were crowned Munster Senior Hurling champions as they outlasted Clare in an epic decider on Sunday.

It ended 1-29 to 0-29 after nearly 100 minutes in Thurles as John Kiely’s men found the extra gear when needed most.

Dan Morrissey has played his part in each of those finals and was exceptional again at wing back as he helped to shut down the Clare forwards including Shane O’Donnell who was kept scoreless during the game.

Reflecting on the latest win, the Ahane man was delighted to get the job done, crediting their efficiency in extra-time.

“Yeah it’s super feeling inside there yeah it’s not every day you win a Munster title so when you do you may as well celebrate a properly fierce tough game out there very tired bodies there was nothing between the teams in fairness extra time we probably just pushed on but yeah it’s super, a great feeling yeah”

“Even when we went a couple of points ahead Clare just kept coming back at us and back at us and then yeah obviously that sideline at the very end to level it was a terrific score but look we went into the dressing room we regrouped.

“I thought we came out well in extra time, we worked the ball well and took our scores when it mattered.”

The return of the round robin has been well documented as it took Limerick more games to win Munster this year than it did to claim All-Ireland honours in 2021

Nonetheless, the Treaty men did make it four on the bounce in the province and Morrissey isn’t taking any of the wins for granted after the “super achievement.”

“Yeah they’re all as sweet as each other. If you looked before our first one a few years ago it was a number of years before we won one. So if you look at the history books Limerick haven’t won a whole pile of Munster titles when you’re comparing probably to Tipperary and Cork so to win four in a row now is a super achievement not that we really talked about before in a row or anything like.

“This was obviously a fiercely contested Munster championship playing five games whereas the last couple of years obviously over covid is a bit more condensed so yeah we really had to earn it this year.”
