Limerick Gardaí warn of bank jugging

GARDAÍ in Limerick are advising people to avoid using large amounts of cash and instead transfer funds electronically to avoid “bank jugging”.

“This term is used to describe a situation in which thieves follow customers suspected of carrying large quantities of cash from a bank,” Garda John Finnerty of Henry Street Garda Station explained.

“The thieves follow the customer with the cash and then attempt to take the cash by using force or else break into their car if they believe the money is locked inside.

If you simply must use cash, be discreet and aware of your surroundings as you enter and leave the financial institution,” Garda Finnerty advised.
